What If I Break a Tooth on Sunday?

Text us right away at (360) 794-5788. Even though our office is closed for routine care on Sundays, we still monitor messages, and Dr. Cho is on call for true emergencies.

While you wait to hear back, take a few simple steps. Rinse your mouth with warm water to clear away any debris. If you find a piece of the broken tooth, save it and bring it with you to your appointment. If the edge feels sharp, cover it with a small piece of sugar-free gum or dental wax so it does not cut your tongue or cheek. An ice pack on your cheek, 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off, can help with any swelling or discomfort.

Not every broken tooth needs an emergency room visit. If you are in pain but otherwise feel fine, texting us a photo helps us figure out the best next step, whether that means seeing you as soon as we open or scheduling you for our next available day. If you notice heavy bleeding, facial swelling, a fever, or trouble breathing or swallowing, go to the emergency room first, then text us so we can follow up on your dental care.

Once we see you, we will let you know your options. Many broken teeth can be restored with a same-day crown right here in our office, so you are not stuck waiting weeks for a permanent fix.
