If your child has tooth discomfort or you're concerned about their oral development, it's time to see a children's dentist. Many parents wonder when their child's first dental visit should be; the answer is around age one, or as soon as their first teeth come in.

Dr. Yunki Cho loves caring for children and provides friendly, comprehensive children's dental care at Sky Valley Dental. This makes it convenient for busy Monroe families to get all their dental care in one place, saving time and money.

What to Expect When You See a Children's Dentist

Those first visits may seem early, but it's never too early to start developing a friendly rapport with your child. During those first visits, we'll spend most of our time monitoring their oral development, counting their teeth, and helping them feel comfortable in the dental chair. We won't do teeth cleanings until they're older and more comfortable visiting the dentist.

Our goal is to create positive relationships with children that set them up for successful appointments in the future.

As Your Child Grows

As they get older, Dr. Cho may recommend fluoride treatments after teeth cleanings to help build and protect developing teeth. He might also suggest dental sealants for your child. A sealant is a thin plastic coating he places over the chewing surfaces of their molars to protect against tooth decay.

For kids who play sports, he will recommend a custom mouthguard to cover and protect teeth from the damage that can happen during sports. A custom mouthguard fits snugly and doesn't interfere with your child's game-time performance.
