Not everyone likes the thought of having to open their mouth and trust their dentist or dental hygienist entirely. For many patients, the fear of pain, unknown procedures, and even financial burden can keep people out of the dentist's chair—until they have a dental emergency.

Would you rather endure suffering from a toothache rather than make a dental appointment? If so, then you are among the ranks of millions of Americans who believe that dental procedures are worse than the pain of untreated infection, decay, disease, and trauma.

Caring Dentistry in Monroe

At Sky Valley Dental, we have many methods that help alleviate fear and anxiety. We know that patients tend to fear what they don't know, so we take the time to go over any procedure and all the steps involved, so there are no unexpected surprises. We use sedation for everything from routine dental cleanings to more invasive dental procedures. If you are nervous about seeing us, please let your Monroe, WA dental team know so we can help treat your dental anxiety.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Through the use of medication, Dr. Yunki Cho can help patients feel secure and comfortable during their time in our dental office.

There are several levels of dental sedation, including:

Nitrous oxide—this minimal sedation is breathed in and allows patients to relax and let our dentist to perform his job without any difficulty. Also known as "laughing gas," nitrous only lasts for 10-15 minutes and allows patients to drive themselves right after their dental procedure
Oral sedation—Oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate coverage. Typically, patients can take a pill 30 minutes to an hour prior to the dental procedure so they can feel relaxed, even drowsy. Oral sedation can make patients feel sleepy and drift off during their procedure, although they wake up shortly after the process
IV sedation—Sedatives are delivered through intravenous methods so they can take effect quickly. Your dentist can adjust your level of sedation. You will need someone to bring you to and from your appointment.
General anesthesia—The deepest level of sedation, patients will need a ride after their procedure and typically fall into a deep state of sleep during the treatment.

Dr. Cho will also administer a local numbing anesthetic so patients will never feel pain during the procedure.
